WrestleMania 22 was the twenty-second annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by International Wrestling Entertainment (IWE). It took place on April 2, 2006 at the Allstage Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois.
The main fued heading into WrestleMania on the Meltdown brand was between Dustin Simpson and Triple K over the IWE Championship. On the February 13 edition of Meltdown, Simpson retained the IWE title by defeating Chris and Mick Foley serving as the special guest referee. After failing to win the Royal Rumble Match, Triple K participated in the 2006 Road to WrestleMania Tournament, where the winner would become the number-one contender to the IWE Championship at WrestleMania. In the final match of the tournament, held on the February 20 edition of Meltdown, Triple K faced KGM and The Big Marc in a Triple Threat Match. Triple K won the match after pinning KGM following a Pedigree. On the March 6 edition of Meltdown, both the IWE Champion John Cena and challenger Triple K won their WrestleMania Rewind Matches. First, Triple K dropped his WrestleMania XV opponent Chris LeGreca with a Pedigree with the help from Michael Ferry and James. Later, with Triple K watching at ringside, Simpson defeated his WrestleMania XX opponent Big Marc after nailing him with an FU for the win.
