SummerSlam (2008) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by International Wrestling Entertainment (IWE), which took place on August 17, 2008 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was the 21st annual SummerSlam event and starred wrestlers from the Meltdown, Fusion and XCW brands.

Martin mcAlmond??who after SummerSlam feuded with La Familia.

With Edge written out of action, Martin McAlmond's rivalry with him was re-focused towards one with the remaining members of La Familia. At the August 15 episode of Fusion, Lynn Lehr tried to apologize to Martin McAlmond for her actions. Despite this, Martin McAlmond decided to launch an attack at La Familia. The following week saw Martin McAlmond vow revenge on the stable.

Both main event feuds for the Meltdown brand were set to continue at Unforgiven with each men involved in a new concept five-man match called the Championship Scramble match for the World Heavyweight Championship that would also involve Chris LeGreca. It was later revealed, however, that the SummerSlam match between Simpson and Dern left Simpson with a legitimate herniated disc. Simpson's injury saw him replaced in the match Scott Wright

The Fusion brand would also feature its own Championship Scramble match at Unforgiven with Triple K defending his IWE Championship against The Brian Woods, Junior Remeriz, Mikhail Schmalzried and Josh Hooper. In spite of this, Triple H's rivalry with The Great Khali continued when Triple K aided Josh Hooper during his Scramble qualification match against Hageman with a chair shot.

A title rematch between Matt Hooper and Steven Larson was made at the next episode of XCW on Syfy, which Larson won from interference by Tony Atlas. Shortly afterward, XCW General Manager Theodore Long announced that XCW would have its own Championship Scramble at Unforgiven for the XCW Championship, which Hooper managed to qualify for along with Joe Smith, Josh Nuss and Danlay.

Reception[]

Conseco Fieldhouse has a maximum capacity of 18,345, but that was reduced for SummerSlam. The event had an attendance of 15,977, the maximum allowed, selling out the event.

Canadian Online Explorer's professional wrestling section rated the entire event a 6.5 out of 10 stars, the same as the SummerSlam event in 2007. The Hell in a Cell main event match from the Fusion brand rated an 8.5 out of 10 stars. The Meltdown brand's main event, Dustin Simpson versus Jesse Dern, was less well received and was rated a 6.5 out of 10 stars. The Sun gave the event a great review, praising the Hell in a Cell match, Eldridge's performance, the Jericho/HBK angle and JR's commentary. Overall, they rated the event 9 out of 10.
