SummerSlam (2004) was the seventeenth annual SummerSlam professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by International Wrestling Entertainment (IWE). It took place on August 15, 2004 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario and featured talent from the Meltdown and Fusion! brands.

The main feud heading into SummerSlam on the Meltdown brand was between Kevin Hunter and Kevin McAlmond, with the two feuding over the World Heavyweight Championship. At Vengeance, Hunter defeated Triple K to retain the title. On the July 26 edition of Meltdown, Kevin McAlmond won a 20-man battle royal, last eliminating Kris McGowan, to become the number one contender to the title at SummerSlam. The following week on Meltdown, Evolution (Kevin McAlmond, Jesse Dern and Ric Flair) defeated Kevin Hunter, Edge and Kris McGowan. Evolution won the match after Kevin McAlmond pinned Kevin Hunter following an RKO. On the August 9 edition of Meltdown, Kevin Hunter defeated the team of Kevin McAlmond and Triple K in a Handicap match by disqualification.
